Presentation Description:
As a leader, mentor, or supportive individual, you may find yourself facing difficult situations where a team member, colleague, or loved one is struggling with their mental health. How do you determine when to simply offer support, when to be concerned, and when a crisis requires immediate action?
In this comprehensive 3-4 hour workshop, you’ll learn how to assess different levels of mental health challenges and respond appropriately within your role. We’ll break down the distinctions between care, concern, and crisis, equipping you with practical tools to navigate difficult conversations, offer the right kind of support, and recognize when professional intervention is necessary.
This training will help you lead with confidence, compassion, and clarity—ensuring that those in your care receive the help they need while maintaining appropriate boundaries within your professional scope.
Presenter Bio:
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over two decades of experience in the mental health field, Julie Birky is passionate about equipping leaders to foster mentally healthy environments within their organizations and communities. Her journey in mental healthcare began in 2004, and since 2015, Julie has been licensed to practice in Illinois. Her work focuses on mental health education, consultations, and supporting leaders who want to make a meaningful difference.
Julie loves helping people discover insights they may already sense but haven't yet fully realized. Teaching, for her, is a creative process—a way to guide others on a journey of self-discovery, not just about mental health concepts, but about their own strengths, leadership, and potential to effect change. Whether she is facilitating a workshop, leading a consultation, or holding office hours, Julie's goal is to inspire confidence, clarity, and practical skills that leaders can apply immediately.
